AN AMBITIOUS REPORTER SETS OUT TO MAKE IT IN THE FREELANCE NEWS WORLD, DESPITE THE FACT HE'S COMPLETELY UNINFORMED.
This mockumentary series follows Ang Wilson, holder of a certificate IV in journalism, and his trusty camerawoman, Mandy as they attempt to break into the ‘elite’ ranks of the freelance media world.
With news websites dominated by clickbait and stories ‘fleshed out’ over 140 characters, a new path to notoriety has been laid within the fourth estate. How would Kerry O’Brien approach journalism if he were starting out today? Would Laurie Oakes dominate twitter? We are simultaneously more engaged and less focused on our news, reading headlines rather than articles, quoting social media memes rather than experts. Quality has been mauled by quantity and a canny operator could really make a name for himself in this story hungry, ‘post-truth’ environment.
Kaeng Chan (Disney Playhouse) stars as the simultaneously clueless and inciteful reporter, Ang Wilson and Shannon Still (Janet King) plays the dry everywoman, Mandy who is paid for her camera services with free board...it’s Sydney, that’s a good deal.
The series takes aim at the growing intersection of journalism and the pursuit of fame. If Spinal Tap and Frontline had a baby, Ang Wilson might be its cousin.
